The programme, which helps Greater Manchester residents find local jobs, search for courses, and access various forms of skills and employment support, said its aim was to help others gain a clearer understanding of the region’s economy and to better identify policies that might support growth and employment.

The information in the report was drawn from the Seasonal Sector Insights Pack, a quarterly review that uses analysis from the GM Labour Market Insights Unit, which includes colleagues from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), GM Chambers of Commerce, the GM Business Growth Hub, and Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency (MIDAS).

Headlines

  • While many city regions have similar workforce profiles, Greater Manchester has an especially high concentration of financial and professional services workers.
  • The public sector employs just over a third of workers in Greater Manchester, across health, education, emergency services, and local government.
  • Around a fifth of workers in Greater Manchester are employed on a part-time basis.

  • Increases in entry level roles such as office assistants and customer service made them the second and third most in demand in the 12 months to May 2024.
