Formula 1 star Sebastian Vettel visits prison with Dominic Raab to open workshop for young offenders

It’s the British Grand Prix this weekend, and earlier this year the four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and Justice Secretary Dominic Raab opened a new motor workshop for young offenders at HMP Feltham. The workshop will give young offenders the chance to learn new motor mechanic skills, working on vehicles that have been donated by scrap yards and various charities.
Sebastian Vettel gave a short speech, and told the inmates:
“Life is not fair and some of us do things we regret- but everybody deserves a second chance. If you go through life with an open mind and if you’re ready to be inspired, then things will happen for you.”
Dominic Raab followed and said:
“People come into prisons with all sorts of problems – drugs, alcohol, mental health issues, low self-esteem, no education – and they are going to come out at some point… We want offenders to be given a second chance… It is good for them, and it is good for society at large, because that’s the way we will cut crime.”
Here at the Growth Company, we provide a safe and supportive environment for people on probation in Yorkshire to support their rehabilitation and resettlement. We offer a range of tailored support, including one to one advice, guidance, and group work, enabling individuals to move closer to the labour market, employment training and education. The service aims to equip offenders with the necessary skills needed to help them desist from offending and contribute to their local communities.
