Anna Kick Starts Career Thanks to the Restart Scheme

A Greater Manchester woman has returned to work after a long absence thanks to support from the Restart Scheme.

Anna was referred to the Restart Scheme in late 2022 by her Jobcentre Plus Work Coach. Unemployed since 2018, Anna was keen to update her CV, with a view to finding a job, ideally in the care sector.

With the help of her Restart Advisor, Anna improved her CV and researched various care roles on the government’s National Careers Service website. Struggling to find a role in care that fit her skillset and motivations, she spoke to her Advisor about potentially pursuing a career in education instead, enquiring whether she should enrol on a teaching assistant course.

Anna’s Advisor promptly arranged for her to attend a suitable course at Salford College, which she successfully completed. She then worked with her Advisor to apply for various teaching assistant roles and register for local jobs fairs. Anna’s Advisor also helped her to apply for and cover the costs of the DBS certificate that she would require to work in schools.

Having completed a new qualification, secured a DBS certificate, and received a wide range of employment support from the Restart Scheme, Anna was soon offered more than 30 hours of work per week by an employment agency.
