The CFO Activity Hubs in Yorkshire aim to tackle the barriers that make it difficult for individuals to access support in areas such as education, skills development, and employability. Part-funded by the European Social Fund, the Hubs aim to overcome some of the barriers that make it difficult for individuals to access support in areas such as education, skills development, and employability.
ST was referred to the Hub as a result of his flat being victim of a fire late in 2022. He was in temporary accommodation and struggling with his mental health and was encouraged to seek help with accessing these services and maintaining his well-being.
ST struggled to communicate and found it overwhelming to have to live so closely with difficult people in his temporary accommodation – this often meant he came across as aggressive to other housemates and the landlady. These difficulties caused ST to drink excessively which was usually the cause of his offending behaviours.
Over 2 months, ST’s support worker worked closely with him, his probation officer, and his housing officer to receive regular updates on ST’s property, plan to ensure he has furniture, an accessible kitchen and the property is safe before re-entering. His support worker also worked closely to ensure he is looking after himself mentally as well as physically, and offering support when he is at his lowest points. ST has recently moved back into his property.
When speaking on his experience at the Hub, ST said;
“I feel like this is a fresh start of me and crackers (my rabbit) I know I have a little way to go but I really could not have got through these past few weeks without you. Thank you so much, I really mean that.”
Looking forward, ST is now awaiting a new sofa and washing machine, he has also asked that his support worker helps him with budgeting and applying for a new drivers license.
