Growth Company to Deliver Jobs for Hongkongers Programme Across England

• The Growth Company has won the bid to deliver the national Jobs for Hongkongers initiative, which will form part of the Ministry of Housing, Community and Local Government’s (MHCLG) Hong Kong Welcome Programme.
• Jobs for Hongkongers aims to help eligible BN(O) visa holders in the UK to improve their employability skills.
• It will do so through an 8-week virtual/remote course, with support available in the Cantonese language.

The Growth Company is set to deliver an employability programme for Hongkongers based in England, alongside Groundwork UK and the Migrant and Refugee Centre.

Jobs for Hongkongers aims to help Hong Kong BN(O) visa holders find sustainable and meaningful employment. It will do so through an 8-week course designed to improve participants’ employability. The course will be delivered virtually or remotely and in the Cantonese language, ensuring that all those who require support can access it.

All Hong Kong BN(O) visa holders who enrol on the course will be paired with a dedicated key worker who will provide them with information, advice, and guidance. The key workers will meet with participants on a weekly basis, covering everything from effective job search strategies to CV preparation and interview tips. 

In addition, the course will help participants to improve their English through informal online ESOL conversation cafés and regular in-person meet-up events.

“Hundreds of thousands of Hongkongers have applied for BN(O) visas over the past few years, with many deciding to move to the UK. We are looking forward to helping them realise their goals and full potential in the world of work.”
