Restart teams making the most of Volunteers’ Week

  • Monday, June 6, 2022

To mark the end of Volunteers’ Week, we are highlighting some of the work our Restart colleagues have been up to over the last couple of weeks.

In May, a group of staff from our Restart offices in Rotherham attended Pop’s Outdoor Adventure in Rawmarsh to help clean up the centre and carry out some essential maintenance after two years of closure due to the pandemic. The team worked with Pop’s staff to prepare the centre for the busy summer outdoor season, that will see over 100 children access the centre each week.

Our Barnsley team completed two volunteering sessions in partnership with Twiggs. Twiggs are a community-based company who offer gardening, landscaping and environmental maintenance across Barnsley, who also work with volunteers to give them experience in this sector, to hopefully add to their CV. The team helped clean up the local church at Wosbrough Village. This included de-weeding, clearing pathways and trimming overgrown hedges. On the second day, the team litter-picked at Bracken Court in Kendray.

The end of May saw a group of the staff from our Restart Doncaster office spend 2 days volunteering and working alongside the Don Catchment Rivers Trust at Hexthorpe Park, where they were removing Himalayan balsam – an invasive plant species that grows along the riverbanks, destroying the other wildlife and habitat.

We deliver the Restart Scheme across the North of England on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions. It is a government Scheme providing up to 12 months of enhanced support to help you find a job in your local area. It's designed to break down any employment barriers that could be holding you back from finding work.
