World Mental Health Day: Helping Charlotte to Re-discover Her Identity

• The Growth Company delivers the Working Well: Support to Succeed programme across Greater Manchester.

• To mark World Mental Health Day, Charlotte told us how the programme helped her to recover after a period of poor mental health.

To mark World Mental Health Day, Charlotte* shared her inspiring story of how Working Well: Support to Succeed helped her to overcome a challenging period of poor mental health and regain her self-confidence.

Charlotte* joined the Support to Succeed programme after struggling with her mental health. She was experiencing extreme anxiety, PTSD, and isolation due to the suicide of her husband. Since his passing, Charlotte found herself struggling to cope, leading her to be stuck in a cycle of depression and losing her identity.

Since joining the programme, Charlotte has engaged with a number of services. These include getting some ID, accessing job support services such as updating her CV, and accessing financial services. She also received counselling and tried other wellbeing services such as reiki which have improved her general engagement. Charlotte has also worked closely with a housing officer to be rehomed after stalking allegations.

Moreover, with support from her keyworker, Charlotte secured part time employment as a cleaner. The routine and earnings from this job are helping her to stay on a positive track.

Since joining the Support to Succeed programme, Charlotte has seen an improvement in her general outlook on life and feels her sense of identity is slowly returning.

Working Well: Support to Succeed is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The city-region's allocation, managed by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and delivered by The Growth Company, will provide support for up to 4,500 residents between January 2024 and March 2025.
