Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) in Prisons

Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) in Prisons provides support for people in prison to:

  • Explore skills and work experience opportunities
  • Identify their aspirations whilst in prison and beyond
  • Overcome any barriers to learning and finding work
  • Develop a support plan for when they are released

The service we provide

Delivery of the CIAG service is tailored to meet the needs of each individual in prison with all participants following a structured programme of support which includes:

  • Induction: Participants will discuss their current qualifications and work experience. They will identify strengths and areas for growth and develop a personalised learning plan, setting short-, medium--, and long-term goals.
  • Review: People in prison will meet regularly with an advisor to explore work and education options, including distance learning opportunities.
  • Unlocking Opportunities: By examining their progress in custody, we will set goals for the future and plan for release. We can connect participants with outside services and help them explore job and training opportunities to ensure a smooth transition into the community. We can also help with looking for and applying for jobs.
  • Resettlement: By discussing post-release plans, we can help people access support from resettlement partners and local employment support services.
