The Growth Company has been commissioned to deliver the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Finance, Benefit and Debt (FBD) service until 2026 – targeting People in Prison who need help with a range of financial problems.

The FBD Team can provide People in Prison with:

Access to regulated debt advice providers

Benefits advice

Better off calculations for entering employment

Budgeting support

Support to restructure debt

Support with opening up bank accounts and obtaining ID

We will provide 1-2-1 support and a personalised Action Plan to support individual progression towards financial literacy and stability upon release.

People in Prison

The FBD service will support People in Prison by:

  • Providing advice, guidance, and support on how to manage your individual finances
  • Providing information, advice and guidance when accessing benefits
  • Support with managing debt
  • Information and advice about how you can access support post-sentence

Prison Personnel

The FBD service will support people in prison by:

  • Supporting reducing re-offending by breaking down barriers and support with changing behaviours
  • Referral and signposting to regulated external financial providers
  • Providing a triage-based assessment to identify specific support needs relating to finance, benefit and debt

The service is delivered in 8 prisons across Yorkshire and Humber, including:

  • HMP Doncaster
  • HMP Hatfield
  • HMP Lindholme
  • HMP Moorland
  • HMP Hull
  • HMP Humber
  • HMP Leeds
  • HMP Wealstun

 

The service complements the range of services which the Growth Company already delivers in Yorkshire and Humberside on behalf of MoJ in the community, including:

  • CRS Education, Training and Employment
  • CRS Wellbeing
  • The CFO Yorkshire Activity Hubs
