Winning Ways: How the Personal Wellbeing Service helped Stephen into Work
- Tuesday, August 29, 2023
The Growth Company’s Personal Wellbeing Service offers an 8-week course to help people on probation develop the necessary skills and knowledge to lead healthier and more fulfilled lives – cutting their chances of re-offending in the process.
As part of the service, which is also known as “Winning Ways”, the GC team delivers weekly educational classes focused on enhancing participants’ emotional wellbeing. Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme hosts parallel physical activity sessions, which incorporate circuit training, gym workouts, and football.
Stephen’s Story
Stephen is one of many people in South Yorkshire who has benefited from enrolment on the course. Find out how it boosted his self-confidence and lead him into paid work.
The Growth Company’s operations manager, Dave Vaughan, said: “Stephen is proof that making connections can lead you in unexpected directions. The more often you say ‘yes’, and the more doors you choose to walk through, the greater the chance that you’ll meet people who will help you in ways you never imagined.
“When Stephen enrolled on our Winning Ways wellbeing programme, none of us could have foreseen where it would lead, and yet here he is – a chef at Sheffield Wednesday.”
GC key worker Trudi Race added: “I’d like to extend a massive thank you to Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme for partnering with us on this project, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and a non-judgemental approach. This opportunity has been life changing for Stephen.”
